  • The whole Sura is talking about Yousaf (A.S.) to give us a complete story and experience of a Nabi of Allah from the beginning to the end.
  • Dream of Yousaf (AS): Yousaf was very young at that time. He saw dream that eleven planets and the sun and the moon are making sajood (prostration) to him.
  • He told his father about this dream. His father told him don’t relate this vision of your to your brothers because they were already jealous of Yousaf (AS).
  • Allah is telling us that we should say good words. The good word is a weapon against Satan because Satan is using the words against us.
Lessons and implication of message into my professional and personal life.

  • Yousaf was the most beloved in the eyes of his father. And these brothers disliked that and they were jealous. And we said that jealousy blinds the heart.
  • The brothers of Yousaf made a plan to kill, assassinate their brother.
  • They intended to make tauba before making this sin. They said ‘we will kill him and then we will make tauba’.
  • One of them who was the softest among them, he said, ‘No. Don’t kill Yousaf; instead throw him in the well’.
  • Brothers of Yousaf (AS) said to Yaqoob (AS) to letm them bring Yousaf (AS) to play and enjoy.

  • They came crying to Yaqoob (AS) and said that wolf ate him.
  • Yaqoob (AS) stated that I feared this and so patience is best and I will seek assistance from Allah.
·         A caravan of travelers passed by and finds Yousaf (AS) in the well.
·         They were happy because this was a fortune. In those times slaves will get you a lot of money.
·         They sold him for good price. Even though they got a good deal for Yousaf (AS) but Allah is saying it’s a low price because they never knew who was in their hands.
·         Allah put him in difficulties and established him in Egypt. He got trained in the house of Al-Aziz.

  • Jealousy took the wisdom away from people and makes them blind. It makes insignificant big things and makes small things big in the eyes of the people.
  • Crying is not the sign of innocence and truth.
  • Remain patient even in most painful situations.
  • Always seek assistance from Allah Almighty.
  • Intension to make Tauba before committing sins never gives any advantage.

·         A guest came and knowing the issue gave the suggestion that if the shirt of Yousaf is torn from the front, then she is telling the truth. If the shirt of Yousaf is torn from the back, then she is lying because if the shirt is torn from the front, it means that Yousaf was attacking her and she was fighting him. This shirt was torn from the back, so she was lying.
·         Al-Aziz said to Yousaf (AS) to forget about it and ask her wife to seek forgiveness from Allah.
·         Some woman from rich and famous of the high-class gossiped about it and news was spreading.
·         So the wife of al-Aziz wanted to teach them a lesson. She invited these women gave them knives and then she told them to start eating fruits. She made Yousaf walk in front of them.

We should seek refuge from Allah Almighty and ask for his help and assistance because we are weak and powerless while He has whole authority and control over us. We should always show our gratitude to our seniors and show it through our actions.
Lessons learned from the topics.
·         Hukm and ilm (good judgment of events and knowledge) is very important for anybody in a position of leadership.
·         If people of an Islamic state lost touch with the reality of world and remains only in gaining knowledge, it will lead to destruction of the state.

·         He said, “I have left the religion of the people who disbelieve in Allah. He is talking about the religion that they are following.
·         And they disbelieve in Akhira. So he is establishing in them the belief in Allah and belief in Akhira. And then
·         I have followed the religion of my fathers, Ibrahim, Ishaq and Yaqoob. Ibrahim (A.S.) was the caller of truth of tauhid in that time. The people in Egypt have heard about the news of Ibrahim and Ishaq and Yaqoob and the religion of tauhid.
·         The people in Egypt at that time knew the concept of Allah but they knew it in a form of shirk.
·         Yousaf was saying that this message of tauhid is a blessing of Allah on us and it’s a blessing of Allah on all mankind.
·         Yousaf (AS) gave them another introduction before he interpreted the dreams.
·         He asked them a question to make them use their mind that who is better Allah or others and them telling them that these gods have no substance and Allah is the best.

·         A person should not consider him strong and accept his weaknesses and ask help from Allah.

i.        One interpretation is that this man he left jail and he went to work with the king but when he got in the palace and all of the luxuries of life, he forgot about Yousaf (A.S.).Shaitan made him to forget.
ii.      The other meaning is that Yousaf (A.S.) forgot to ask Allah and he asked this man to ask the king. Instead of asking Allah, he asked the king to help him. And because of that mistake, he paid a price.
  • The king after a few years saw a dream. Dreams played an important role in their lives. And Allah gives the Ambiya a miracle to challenge the people in the things that are most important for them.
  • The king saw a dream. The king saw seven fat cows eaten by seven skinny ones. He further saw then seven green years of corn and seven dry years of corn.

How it was resolved.

·         Yousaf (AS) asked king to make him in charge of treasury. Yousaf was asking for that position. And telling the king his qualities that he is Hafeez and Aleem. The logics were:
  1. The scholars say that when you are the only person who is able to take that position, then you are allowed to ask for it. And Yousaf was the only one who was fit for that position. If he left it, it would have been taken by somebody who will not take care of it
  2. If you are not well-known to the people, then you are allowed to introduce yourself. Yousaf (A.S.) wasn’t known.
  3. Yousaf (A.S.) was not asking this position for fame or power. He is going to take care of Egypt in seven of its most devastating years of hunger and famine. It’s a very difficult and critical moment and he is doing it as a service to take care of the people of Egypt.
  • Allah gave him authority and established him in Egypt.
  • The famine that stroked Egypt wasn’t limited to that area. It has some effects on the surrounding areas like Palestine, Syria and other parts of the world.

  • When they entered according to their father’s advice, it did not avail them in the least against the will of Allah.
